General Information
Food
All food is freshly bought and prepared in camp by our staff.
Early in the morning the hunt start off with a light breakfast which is served with coffee and fruit juice. After the morning hunt, brunch is served and then you can take the open spaces and hunt again. Sometimes lunch is served in the field when hunting.
A three to four course meal is served after the day’s hunt. During the day coolers are provided with light snacks, water, soda and fruits. Food is freshly prepared for every meal and you will be able to enjoy some of the meat from your hunt.
South Africa is one of the leaders in the world with our top quality wines, and you can enjoy some of these after a days hunt, during dessert and afterwards around the fire pit.
Please Note: If you have any medical condition that we should be aware of, please let us know before hand so that we can be ready to handle this to your satisfaction.
Hunting (Tracking, Shot placement)
Hunting conditions in our areas are very much the same as in the southern part of Texas.
The best practical time for hunting in this area is between April and October when day’s are good and nights are cool. The visibility then is much better and animals are spotted easier.
Hunting is done the way you like it walk-and–stalk, from blinds, and vehicles. We at World Class Hunting Safaris cater for rifle- bow- and black powder hunters. We also undertake green hunts (on request). We hunt on foot, but use opportunities on trophy animals as they arise.Don't be sorry....
The best time for archers are from June to end of September just before the normal rain starts. Blinds are used for archers with good successes. We also do hunts on a required basis in Mozambique and Botswana, this is arranged on your personal request.
We make use of privately owned concessions and therefore can offer you a wide variety of game and good trophies. Research has shown that there are now more animals in this area than 50 years ago because of this system.
The Ellisras/Lephalale area is one of the most popular hunting areas in South Africa because of the high population and quality of trophy animals. Other areas may offer you a cheaper hunt but the quality of the trophy might not be on the same standard.
On big 5 the law requires a minimum caliber of .375 . When out hunting it will be you, your Professional Hunter, Tracker and the wild African nature. You will be surrounded with a big variety of trees, birds, grass and animals.
This area offers 28 different species of animals which can be hunted. While you hunt for one species you will encounter others as well.
Because hunting is a traditional sport, we love it when traditions are carried over and enjoy it when fathers hunt with their children, that is the only way to ensure that this sport will survive.Contact us for a special father/son/daughter quotation.
Come and enjoy the magic of African hunting – the art of tracking by our experienced trackers. It is magic how they can identify the specific track that you are looking for between hundreds of others and then find the right animal a distance away.
On small to medium sized animals a 7mm - .300 caliber would be big enough and on bigger animals from .300 upwards. On our price list we have a guideline to help you to decide. This is what we recommend, not the Alfa and Omega and it may differ, for example a Kudu can be shot with a 7mm and an Impala with a .375. Remember it is all about shot placement and the damage to the organs. Shot placement is the single most important part of hunting African animals.
A typical hunting day
Your typical hunting day would be to get out of bed at +/- 06:00 in the morning, have a light breakfast and after that go out to your hunting area.
You would normally come back to camp for a brunch at about 11:00 or have brunch in the field. The rest of the time you can relax as the animals normally are bedded down until the afternoon.
At +/- 15:00 pm you would go back hunting for the rest of the day until dark.
When your trophy is hunted and killed you would go back to camp so that the trophy could be skinned and taken care of.
Enjoy your hunt...
Climate
Ellisras/Lephalale is situated about 2760 foot above sea level.
Winter starts in April with an average day temperature of about 70 degrees and night temperatures 60 degrees. We are in a summer rainfall area with normal rains from mid October to March the following year. Wintertime hunting is done in lovely days and chilly nights. SPF 30 sunscreen or higher can be used in daytime hunting.
Clothing
Our Suggestions to the client is to wear Khaki or green colored clothing during the hunt. Pants and sleeved shirts are recommended for daytime hunting although some hunters prefer to wear short sleeved shirts and shorts.
Sometimes a hunt can turn out in a long walk and so we would suggest to use light weight clothing.
We suggest that you bring light weight hiking boots with soft soles.
You can pack light as a daily laundry service is provided.
Traveling
To travel between places is a way to see a country and its people. On the way your guide will inform you about the history and the area, feel free to ask any questions and enjoy the ride.
We would advice clients not to take flights via Europe but rather to fly over DAKAR to South Africa. It happened too many times to clients where their rifles got lost or damaged in Europe.
Traveling to and from the airport is done in air conditioned vehicles with a responsible licensed driver. Most of the traveling is done on good surfaced tar roads with a speed limit of 75 miles an hour on main roads. Hunting areas are normally within 25 minutes driving from camp. Our Limpopo camp is about 3hours driving from Johannesburg International airport.(OR Tambo)
Chartered flights are available on your request and account.
Health
We are situated in a malaria free area. Should you visit any other countries or the Kruger National Park precautions are recommended.
Let us know beforehand of any medical conditions that we need to be aware of.
Good medical infrastructure are plus minus 20 minutes away from camp. Ellisras has a very good private hospital with very well trained staff and good doctors. In case of an emergency a helicopter is also available.
Insurance and Indemnity
Although we at World Class Hunting Safaris take every precaution to ensure your safety and health. We do not accept any liability against injuries, illness, accidents and acts of nature.
Please contact your care provider for the necessary coverage while you are on safari.
Taxidermy
We will provide you with an experienced and affordable taxidermy who can help you finish off a perfect safari with perfect trophies. On the last day before you leave he will visit you at camp and start taking care of your African memories. This will be an independent arrangement. Insurance on your trophies can be arranged with them. We will however assist you and if you prefer, we’ll handle your inquiries for you. We also offer a dip and pack facility on the premises and a show quality taxidermist in the US.

Firearms and Documents
We at World Class hunting Safaris are hunters not experts on ballistics. However, we base our knowledge on what we see that works in the field.
Bring a rifle that you are used too and feel comfortable with. A good accurate rifle, with a good penetration ability. African animals are tough and don’t bleed a lot, therefore shot placement is more important than caliber although it goes hand in hand.
I have seen Impala and Warthogs going for miles after good shots with big caliber rifles and then we have seen Eland killed with a 7mm caliber. Thus it is all about shot placement which the very most important part of your hunt.
It is therefore very important that you bring a rifle you can trust and one you are used to. We recommend 300 calibers upwards for bigger plains game. You will need about 40 rounds of good Ammo. Remember a dollar more for a good bullet is not a lot of money when you shoot at an expensive trophy animal.
Although there's a few rumors about the importation of your rifle in South Africa, 90% of them are not true. If you follow these easy steps, you will have no problems on your arrival in SA, we will make sure of that.
Rifle Importation
There are company's and individuals offering a importation service at a fee. WE HAVE A GREAT COMPANY AT VERY LOW PRICES TO HELP.
